Optimetriks selected as a grantee of the GSMA Ecosystem Accelerator Innovation Fund

Not fresh news as the results were communicated late April, but still worth mentioning to start our blog !

We are very proud to have been selected as one of the 9 starts up in the first batch of the fund, out of 400 applicants from Asia and Africa. The GSMA is the industry association of the Mobile Networks Operators (MNO) and has set up a specific program on start-up and innovation called Ecosystem Accelerator. It aims at producing insights and fostering collaboration between start-ups and MNOs.

We went through a tough selection process on the criteria of current commercial traction, potential to scale, social impact and opportunity to work with Mobile Network Operators in our countries of operation.

We have emphasised how we create direct employment opportunities to our community of contributors and channel to them financial incentives that contribute to raising their income.

The benefits are of multiple nature. First, a financial grant of 250,000 euros to support our growth, by strengthening our technical team, and grow our community of users. That will be channeled to our head office in Kenya. Second, access to the mobile network operators to establish commercial and technical partnerships. For example, we provide a monitoring scheme for two mobile money operations, Tigo Cash in Ghana and Airtel Money in Uganda. We provide retail audit services for certain Orange countries. We leverage bulk airtime and mobile money APIs to trigger payments to our contributors. Third, increased exposure and support in our communication effort. We will be showcasing our solution at the GSMA M360 event this week in Dar-Es-Salaam.
