Our team is growing : meet our 6 new recruits !

In line with a growing volume of activity and projects, we have recently on boarded 5 new team members. They are top profiles that will help us strengthen our capabilities. Get to know them below !

Julien Mazars – Tech lead

Julien graduated from UTC (Université Technologique de Compiègne) in France as software engineer in 2008. He started working 2 years in a consulting company, working in the medical sector (Air Liquide healthcare) and in the energy sector (ERDF, EDF) in a R&D environment, doing some developments mainly in object oriented languages. He then had the opportunity to work in Vietnam for a year in the French research company IRD where he was involved in the development of the GAMA platform (an agent-based modelling platform for research), and animating international training sessions. Julien joined Optimetriks in December 2017 as a tech lead, ensuring the good development of the mobile application “smala”, working with a team of 4 other developers.

Alloys Mila – Back-end lead

Alloys holds a B.Sc in Microprocessor Technology from the University of Nairobi, where his love for hardware and software design were natured, he has however since abandoned hardware related stuff, to focus his time on software innovation, especially those focussed on solving problems that are idiosyncratic to Africa. Before joining Optimetriks, Alloys worked in the fintech space, developing card / mobile payment solutions, and cash flow accounting SaaS software  targeted at small merchants in Kenya. At Optimetriks, he works as the back-end lead, which means he is responsible for the technical direction of the code and computing infrastructure than run all our back-end services.

Brian Lusina – Software engineer

Brian graduated with a Bsc in Actuarial Science and holds qualifications from The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. After working in the insurance and finance industry for a while, his passion for software and data was sparked and he saw a need for creating software that meets both business and user needs. Brian then went on to pursue Software engineering in all its entirety and now seeks to create innovative solutions that not only change how people do business but also simplifies how users interact with software. At Optimetriks, Lusina is Software Engineer and is responsible for creating web facing applications that allow clients to interact with the Optimetrik’s platform.


Macarena Machimbarrena – Project Manager

Macarena graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BSc in Natural Sciences. She then went on to do a MSc course at Imperial College London in Environmental Technology. Her interest in the digital innovation scene was fueled by her experience working in Dar es Salaam for an agricultural insurance start-up. Whilst in Dar, she collaborated very closely with the World Food Program on a project called the Farm to Market Alliance. This project exposed her to the vast logistical challenges that entrepreneurial ventures often face when operating in Africa, and sparked her desire to work for Optimetriks, who is paving the way on how digital technologies can be leveraged to help unleash the huge business, and thus economic, potential of Africa. At Optimetriks, Macarena acts as a Project Manager and is responsible for the end-to-end execution of our client’s requests. She is also a part of our Business Development team where she trying to decipher how Optimetriks’ data collection and management platform can be adapted to meet the needs of the public sector – especially with regards to managing complex field operations.

Aldéric Fraslin – Data Scientist

Aldéric is candidate for a MSc in Statistics at ENSAE and University Paris Saclay. He developed his interest for data collection and market studies during his previous experience working with Veltys, a consulting firm specialised in data science based in Paris. Having lived in Madagascar for 17 years, and as this previous experience along with the various projects he worked on during his studies had triggered his taste for data handling, Aldéric developed a will to combine those two aspects of his profile. This will to have an insight into how data could blend in the growth of African economy lead him to Optimetriks. As a Data Scientist, he is taking ownership of data related projects and implements business analytics models to leverage the data collected and generate impactful insights.

Vincent Koech – Quality Assurance Lead

Vincent  works as Quality Assurance Lead at Optimetriks Kenya. Having embraced his passion for consumer insights very early in his career at Kantar TNS (formerly Research International) and Millward Brown, he is very interested in seeing how insights into complex FMCG environments can be translated into growth opportunities for businesses. His mission of providing solutions is the main reason why he chose to work with Optimetriks. He holds a BA in Public Administration and Sociology from the University of Nairobi, and he is currently pursuing a part-time postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management from the same institution.
